haven't done this in quite some time.

a few shout outs...hello ashley! hello other random people who i don't know read my LJ!

I'm sitting here amidst a rainbow of t-shirts, PJs, and towels neatly draped on just about every lamp, table, and sofa cushion in my living room. They obviously have not yet undergone the folding process. And damn, I obviously wear a lot of color.

In other news, Beirut. Oh, and Bombay.

I decided this LJ is no longer going to be only coherent thoughts. From now on, I will post whatever the hell comes into my head, from random disconnected words in foreign languages, to links about captive pandas celebrating milestones, laughter @ Zidane and then even more @ Materazzi's idiocracy, to lists about DC in no particular order serving no particular function (see previous).

Parents. Oh god, parents. How do they do what they do to your brain, specifically the part that controls rapidly increasing levels of frustration and anger? And how is everything blown over just 30 min later? Oh, parents.

Have you ever felt that you can trust a friend less just because she/he has started associating with someone you think is slightly shady? And you know it's not a jealousy thing because that's a ridiculous notion, even if people seem to interpret it that way, but it's purely about shadiness and that slightly nauseated i-don't-even-want-to-try-to-pop-a-fake-smile-but-i'm-doing-it-for-my-friend's-sake feeling every time you find yourself in an enclosed space with aforementioned shady person and your mutual friend?

most of the time i love it. only when it blanks out and refuses to recognize my addressbook and doesn't pick up service right under a freaking cell phone tower...only then do i want to break into into tiny pieces and throw it in the lake (after taking out the sim card, of course)

Latin American Revolutions midterm tomorrow...ahhhhhhhhhhhh! I don't even own the book. Woops.

The apple store told me it would cost $1,000 to fix my computer. HAH.

I brought my Tues/Thurs notebook to the library instead of my Mon/Wed/Fri and now I don't have any notes to study so I guess I am about to head back to Woodruff...woohooo.

...which, no matter how much we try, we fail to portray to other people. We're always told that the intention is what's important, that it's thought that counts. In an ideal world, we would be intuitive enough to extricate these intentions from action. We do not live in an ideal world. Intentions rarely transfer into reality. Not to quote a Batman movie or anything, but: "it's not who you are underneath, it's what you do that defines you..."

That was all very abstract, and quite possibly didn't express exactly what I meant to say. Which is paradoxical in a way...

Anyway, I'm awkward when it comes to people I don't know very well. Not strangers, not people who I've only talked to once or twice, but acquaintances. For some reason, I can't seem to have a decent conversation with people who aren't quite my friends, but know enough about me to make me uncomfortable. I can't explain this phenomenon, so hopefully I'm not the only one, and someone out there understands what I mean by this. I wish I could be like my father and be able to converse with anyone and everyone, or even like Sarah, who says things like "Wow, this is awkward," and "I don't know what to say." But instead, I inevitably try to converse with these people, sometimes as the initiator, and end up wondering why I even bothered because I either sounded like I was conceited, stupid, or incredibly dull. Amplify the stupid factor when it's in a foreign language. Multiply that by three when it's with a professor.

Honestly, I can't even believe I am writing about this in a public space.

Sometimes, in order to avoid the awkwardness, I even avoid certain people altogether. FOR NO REASON. Especially if I know that particular person well enough to stop and have a semi-3-minute conversation with him/her.

This doesn't really apply to friends, or most people at home, for that matter.

I feel like who I am in my head isn't the same person that people see me as.

I wish I had a conclusion, but I'm afraid that's all.

It has become apparent to me that sometime in the past month I seem to have unconsciously made the decision to become both a bum and a hermit. I honestly can't remember the last time I went out at night, and the majority of my spare time (read: 60% of my day) goes into either doing my Arabic homework, pretending to read for all my other classes, researching things on the internet, or reading one of the four various books I'm in the middle of right now and scribbling notes all over the margins. I never go to the library anymore, because honestly...who wants to walk twenty minutes there and twenty minutes back in the middle of the night? I rarely leave Woodruff to do my work, hell I don't even leave room 414. Which equates to unproductiveness, considering I simply cannot get anything of importance done in my room.

Anyway, my point? I need to get a life.
